Welcome to 7th Grade Science

~Welcome Team Phoenix Families~

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I will continue to post student assignments on my Google Classroom page. Every student enrolled in my science class has access to this site and has since the start of the year. If for some reason they are not signed up, the class code can be found below. Note that students MUST be logged into their WCPSS account to gain access.

I will be updating very general class information here, on this page, for parents, so that you can see what your child is working on each week.

To be clear- there will be science work EVERY WEEK. Work will include copying notes from Google Classroom into their binders, watching videos, reading articles, and completing various hands-on activities. Unless otherwise specifically noted on an assignment, students are expected to complete all work that is posted in Google Classroom.

I will be providing LIVE office hours every week as well as office hours via email. I will provide online meeting information on Google Classroom so that students can log in to meet with me to discuss any questions or just to connect with one another. Unless I need to make a change for a specific week the science schedule will follow the schedule below:

Mondays: New lesson posted to Google Classroom; Office hours via email 9:00-10:00 am*

Tuesdays: Office hours via email 9:00-10:00 am*

Wednesdays: Office hours via email 9:00-10:00 am*; LIVE online learning (NOT new material, reinforcement of material posted on Monday) 10:00-11:00 am

Thursdays: Office hours via email 9:00-10:00 am*

Fridays: LIVE office hours 2:00-3:00 pm

*Email office hours indicates that I am available for immediate response to student questions. I am generally available during regular school hours but may not be available for immediate response outside of office hours.

If you are absent from school please visit my Google Classroom for work. The info on how to sign up and login is below.

I'm SO excited that you're here and part of #TeamPhoenix! I am looking forward to an exciting and productive school year and in science, not only will it be exciting and productive, but it will also be challenging.  Seventh-grade science is designed to provide you with experiences in the scientific method, weather & the atmosphere, forces & motion, cell theory, heredity & genetics, and human body systems.  I strongly believe that every student can learn and excel in science and can experience success in school.

All students are required to join my Google Classroom. This is where I post notes, project and assessment info, copies of handouts, and general class information. Google Classroom is what I update as we move through the school year. and you will sometimes turn work in via Google Classroom.

The code for my classroom is 6lfivp5

You must be logged in to your WCPSS Google account to access Google Classroom.

I also suggest that you and/or your parents sign up for Remind. To join my Remind group text @MsCasePH to the number 81010.

You can also follow me on Twitter but it is absolutely NOT a requirement. I typically post pictures of things we're doing in class as well as things going on in my life (fair warning- you will likely see lots of pictures like those down below...fuzzy animals, nature, etc.).

About Ms. Case

20151011_160612.jpg

Some of Ms. Case's FAVs-

Stores: Target, Amazon, Starbucks, Harris Teeter

Food Yummies: Chick Fil-A, Backyard Burger, Uncle Julio's

Drinks: Starbucks!, K cups for my Keurig (any flavor but I LOVE vanilla)

Flowers: daisies

Colors: purple & pink

Hobbies/likes: Llama anything, cooking, hiking, anything NYC

I am originally from the Finger Lakes area of Upstate New York. I moved to Raleigh in 2001 and I love it here!
Unlike most teachers, I did not start out in education. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology, and a Master of Arts degree in Geology.  After graduate school I started working in the exciting field of hydrogeology! That means I studied the movement of water through the Earth. My job was to look for and clean up chemicals spilled into the environment.
As important as my job was, I didn't feel as though I was making the difference that I wanted to be making. I knew I needed to be doing something more meaningful and important. So I decided to become a teacher.
I LOVE science! Some would say I'm passionate about it! I'm even more passionate about teaching science! I love seeing young minds grasp new concepts and experience those "A-HA" moments.
I am REALLY proud to say that I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2018! This was an incredible journey for me and one that, I believe, has made me an even better teacher!

Some other things that I'm passionate about:
-Spending time with my family and animals (we love to hike and love to snuggle up on the couch while watching Netflix or Hulu)
-Working out at the gym (bench press & pull-ups are my favorites)
-Eating delicious food (chicken & waffles, CUPCAKES!)
-Traveling (New York City is my favorite city in the WORLD! But I'll take a good hike any day as well)

This is Phoebe, my magical cat. She can usually be found bathing or contemplating her next nap. Phee is also diabetic which means this special girl gets insulin shots from her mama (me) twice each day.

This is Daisy Mae, our crazy but lovable dog. She's a rescue and can usually be found hanging with her bestie, Phoebe. It's pretty inspiring how much they love each other.

This is Simon McAlister, our newest addition to the Case-Taylor household. Although he's one year old now, he is still very much a kitten (in other words he keeps us up all night attacking our feet under the covers and eats like crazy!) and we adore him. If you hear me talking about not getting enough sleep, it's usually this guy's fault!
